Summary
Aalyria is a technology company developing laser communications technology and software-defined networking platforms for the aerospace industry. The Mission Engineer will bridge communications physics and software orchestration by modeling wireless systems, integrating customer hardware through production software adapters, analyzing communication links, and supporting live network operations.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain high-fidelity system models within Spacetime to orchestrate dynamic wireless communication networks
- Design and write production-ready "adapter layers" (primarily in Python or Go) to connect Spacetime with customer hardware
- Create and optimize data schemas (using Protobuf, JSON, gRPC) to map complex external network topologies
- Perform wireless communication system link budget analyses, wave propagation modeling, and coverage simulations
- Act as the tier-3 escalation lead for live networks, diagnosing and resolving complex system integration issues
- Work closely with the core Product and Software Engineering teams to translate custom integration patterns into reusable product features
Skills
- Strong software engineering fundamentals paired with a solid understanding of physical-layer communications
- Hands-on software development experience and comfort passing an entry-level SWE coding assessment
- Experience with wireless communication systems, including RF path loss, propagation, network topology, and link budgets
- Practical experience developing or working with system/network simulation and modeling tools
- B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience, typically backed by 3+ years of professional engineering experience
- To comply with U.S. government export regulations, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- U.S. citizen or national
- U.S. lawful permanent resident (green card holder)
- Refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157
- Asylee under 8 U.S.C. 1158
- Be eligible to access export-controlled information without requiring an export authorization
- Be eligible and reasonably likely to obtain the necessary export authorization from the appropriate U.S. government agency
- Experience with software-defined networking (SDN), BGP, or cloud infrastructure environments (GCP/AWS)
- Experience delivering high-stakes technical integrations for defense, aerospace, or commercial telecommunications enterprise clients
