Job description

Summary

The ACLU is a civil liberties organization that defends and preserves individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the United States. The Spring Undergraduate Intern will support the ACLU’s work before the U.S. Supreme Court through legal research, argument development, brief drafting, case tracking, and strategy projects.

Responsibilities

  • Edit and produce internal memorandums and case trackers relating to the ACLU’s litigation
  • Assist with archival research regarding the ACLU’s Supreme Court History
  • Provide support and assistance to ACLU attorneys and paralegals with document management, memo production, and case tracking
  • Conducting factual research and analysis on the Supreme Court Docket

Skills

  • Qualifying applicants must currently be matriculated legal students
  • Must be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship
  • Excellent research skills, including conducting internet and legal database research
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and writing
  • Attention to detail, excellent organization and time-management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • The initiative to see projects through to completion
  • Demonstrated commitment to public interest law, civil liberties, and racial justice
  • Kindness, generosity, and humility
  • Who have completed their first year of college prior to the commencement of the internship

  • Part-time or full-time, remote or hybrid work arrangement
  • This internship is being offered for course credit only
  • Part-time internships require a commitment of 10, 15, or 20 hours per week for 12 consecutive weeks
  • Full-time internships require a commitment of 35 hours per week for 10 consecutive weeks
