Job description

Summary

Applied Systems is a company transforming the insurance industry by building innovative software and services. They are seeking an Associate Software Engineer to contribute to projects aimed at modernizing and optimizing the codebase while working closely with experienced engineers to reduce technical debt and ensure system reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to development tasks focused on reducing technical debt and improving code quality, with guidance from senior team members
  • Solve defined technical problems and seek support from the team as needed
  • Participate in code reviews, receive feedback, and build technical skills while gaining experience with modern technologies and AI tools
  • Apply foundational knowledge of software development practices, including documentation, testing, debugging, and data structures
  • Maintain metrics and complete tasks in alignment with defined processes
  • Exhibit behaviors that exemplify Applied Systems’ Values in Action

Skills

  • Degree in Computer Science, related fields, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Foundational knowledge of software engineering principles and practices
  • Familiarity with modern, cloud-based technologies and software security practices
  • Basic knowledge of CI/CD and use cases for automated testing
  • Basic knowledge of Agile frameworks and tools like Jira and Confluence
  • Eagerness to learn and grow as part of a collaborative engineering team
  • Exposure to one or more of the following: Go, React, C#, Python, gRPC, SQL, REST APIs
  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, Terraform) and DevOps practices

Qualifications

  • Degree in Computer Science, related fields, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Foundational knowledge of software engineering principles and practices
  • Familiarity with modern, cloud-based technologies and software security practices
  • Basic knowledge of CI/CD and use cases for automated testing
  • Basic knowledge of Agile frameworks and tools like Jira and Confluence
  • Eagerness to learn and grow as part of a collaborative engineering team

Nice to Haves

  • Exposure to one or more of the following: Go, React, C#, Python, gRPC, SQL, REST APIs
  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes, Terraform) and DevOps practices
