Technical Design Intern

Summary

Babcock & Wilcox Construction Company is a global leader in energy and environmental technologies for power and industrial markets. They are seeking a Technical Design Intern to gain hands-on experience working with engineering, proposals, and project execution teams to deliver high-quality products and services.

Responsibilities

• Apply education and training to assist senior designers in solving structural and rigging arrangement problems with economic designs
• Develop experience using 2D and 3D CAD technology (AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks) to prepare basic rigging arrangement drawings, 3D models, and assembly/details for component parts and shop or field fabrication
• Assist senior designers in creating site layout drawings for project planning and development purposes
• Learn and apply crane knowledge and information to assist Operations in lift planning and coordination and creating crane layout drawings
• Learn to determine appropriate views, sections, and orientation on drawings to be made for the purpose of showing necessary information in the most effective manner
• Learn to develop material requirements to develop effective for rigging plans
• Learn how to apply company and industry standards and procedures
• Attend status meetings and training as required
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Skills

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering
• Ability and willingness to learn and apply sound engineering design principles to assigned tasks
• Strong collaboration skills with the ability to effectively interact with project teams
• Excellent critical thinking, time management, and organizational capabilities
• High level of attention to detail with strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint
• 1–2 years of relevant experience preferred, but not required
• AutoCAD and SolidWorks experience preferred
