Job description

About the Department

Gain experience providing professional, strategic, analytical and technical assistance to the organization. This internship would focus on business intelligence and project management for IT-based solutions for a municipal government.

Position Duties

  • Liaise with a range of users in the organization to identify and analyze business needs, conduct requirements gathering, define scope and objectives, lead implementation, and provide longitudinal support.
  • Review and analyze existing business processes and application systems to develop strategies for improvement through new technology or alternative uses of existing technology.
  • Research and review information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, develop business process understanding, and work with customers to uncover unmet business needs.
  • Review and analyze testing of application system after modifications or updates. Coordinate in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Current enrollment in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in:

  • Computer Science;
  • Management Information Systems;
  • Software Engineering;
  • Information Technology;
  • Computer Engineering;
  • or a closely related field;
  • Completion of introductory programming coursework preferred.;
  • Valid Texas driver's license preferred.

Other Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of networking, PCs, servers and database systems
  • Interest in requirements gathering techniques, creation of technical specifications, process mapping, system testing and deployment
  • Understanding of core business practices including work management, document management, collaboration, business intelligence and process automation
  • Open to learning about application software systems from an end-user perspective
  • Comprehensive writing and presentation skills
Physical Requirements
  • Primarily office environment. 
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while using a computer. 
  • Occasional lift up to 25 pounds ;
  • May occasionally travel between City facilities.

Benefits

Part-time employees who have at least six (6) months continuous employment may be paid for all holidays except the Veterans Day floating holiday. Part-time employees are not eligible for the Veteran’s Day floating holiday because City offices are not closed on that day.
