The CCPO also both for credit and paid students in undergraduate and/or graduate school. Interns typically work between 12 to 40 hours a week during the school year and full time during the summer. Interns are assigned to various units within the CCPO including the major trial unit, communications unit, crime strategies unit, and juvenile justice unit.
Depending on the unit to which students are assigned, clerks may draft legal documents. Clerks may also organize files for trials, observe witness interviews, provide investigative support, create PowerPoint presentations for trials, compile exhibits, and observe trials and arguments. Good legal research and writing skills are essential. As an intern at the CCPO, students will generally do research, listen to jail calls, watch body camera footage, help prepare press conferences and media releases, draft social media content and help prepare for community events. Benefits of paid clerking and or interning include pro-rated sick time and OPERS. Generally unpaid clerks and interns often return for additional semesters as paid.
