Summary
The company develops training and educational technology solutions, including serious games and virtual training products. The Journeyman Unity Game Programmer will develop, test, optimize, and document Unity-based game software while collaborating with programmers, designers, instructional designers, artists, customers, and subject matter experts.
Responsibilities
- Interact with team members, customers, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop serious games and virtual training products utilizing the Unity game engine
- Develop and test code, fix bugs and profile and optimize code as directed
- Follow best practices, development processes, and coding standards
- Write efficient code with descriptive comments and maintain attention to detail
- Document and peer review technical designs with other software engineers
- Support code reviews, especially for Junior members of the programming team
- Contribute creatively to the game/course design process, from prototype to completion and sustainment
- Take ownership of his/her work as a highly motivated self-starter
Skills
- Demonstrated experience with and proficiency in game programming using a game engine such as Unity or Unreal
- Journeyman Programmers are expected to be comfortable with more challenging tasks than a Junior Programmer and to be able to work independently as needed
- Experience with the life cycle of design and programming of a game based product from concept through project completion
- Experience with Agile software development
- Experience with version control software (Perforce is preferred)
- Possess a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workload, manage time efficiently, and work in a team environment
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance; an Interim Secret clearance is required before being able to start
- 3+ years of professional Game Programming experience, ideally using Unity
- Bachelor's in Game Development, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related technical discipline
- 7 years of experience may be used in lieu of degree
- Preference will be given to candidates with Unity experience
- Active Secret security clearance
- Experience developing Serious Games, Games for Training, or Educational Games, especially for DoD customers
- Specific experience using a modern version of the Unity engine (2019 and newer) and strong C# skills
- Strong experience developing UI systems using Unity UI (uGUI)
- Experience with Unreal 3, Unreal 4, VBS and/or other commercial game engines
- Experience with iOS, Android, and/or Windows Mobile development
- Working experience with Perforce
- Working experience with Atlassian project management projects (JIRA / Confluence)
- Experience with C/C++ Objective-C, JavaScript, HTML, JSON, XML and other languages
- Portfolio/GitHub with examples of game programming is preferred
