Software Test Engineer I

Summary

NewGen Technologies delivers IT solutions and specialized technology talent to address complex client challenges. The Software Test Engineer I plans and performs application testing throughout the software development lifecycle, including automated, integration, regression, data-validation, security, and performance testing. The role also manages defects, troubleshoots test failures, and collaborates with Agile and Scrum teams to improve software quality.

Responsibilities

• Develop, organize, maintain, and execute software test plans, test cases, test data, and results against defined requirements and acceptance criteria
• Perform unit-support, integration, system, and regression testing of software applications across applicable front-end, back-end, database, and interface components
• Create and maintain automated test scripts using Selenium and basic coding or scripting skills; analyze software behavior and troubleshoot test failures
• Use Jira to document, prioritize, track, and communicate defects and work items, and use SQL and Linux to validate data, inspect environments, and support troubleshooting
• Participate throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC), collaborating with developers, engineers, analysts, and Agile or Scrum teams to improve testability and quality
• Apply security best practices and performance-testing techniques appropriate for complex applications, documenting risks, results, and recommendations

Skills

• Able to obtain a Public Trust designation for access to sensitive, unclassified government information
• At least 1 year of relevant experience with an Associate degree
• Experience should include testing software applications, applying unit, integration ,system, and regression testing concepts, using Selenium, Jira, SQL, and Linux, writing or maintaining basic test scripts, and supporting security or performance testing
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail
• Understanding of the SDLC and Agile or Scrum delivery
• Software application testing experience
• Unit, integration, system, and regression testing methodologies
• Selenium test automation and test-script development
• Jira defect and work-item management
• SQL for data validation and database testing
• Linux commands, logs, environments, and troubleshooting
• Basic coding or scripting knowledge
• Security best practices and performance testing for complex applications
• Skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
