Operations Intern – Summer 2026 Seasonal Internship • Operations Department
POSITION SUMMARY
The Operations Intern supports the daily operational needs of the Museum’s 500-acre historic site, including animal care, historic field maintenance, traditional agricultural work, and general living-history operations. This internship provides hands-on experience in land stewardship, historic preservation, heritage livestock care, and behind-the-scenes operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Animal Care
- Assist with daily feeding, watering, and care of heritage livestock such as sheep, goats, and burros.
- Monitor animal health and report concerns.
- Support pasture care, fence checks, and barn/stall cleaning.
- Assist during shearing, hoof trimming, or veterinary visits.
Historic Field & Site Maintenance
- Support seasonal maintenance of agricultural fields, orchards, and gardens.
- Assist with irrigation, weeding, path clearing, and composting.
- Help maintain historic structures, tools, and work areas.
- Participate in safety checks across trails and public areas.
Traditional Living-History Tasks
- Assist with demonstrations related to traditional farming, tool use, and daily life.
- Prepare firewood, water, and materials for interpretation.
- Support safe, authentic demonstrations.

Event & Daily Operations Support
- Assist with event setup and breakdown.
- Support visitor flow and logistics during festivals.
- Help maintain the cleanliness and readiness of public areas.
- Provide general site support across departments.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current college student or early-career individual in related fields.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather and terrain.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, and walk long distances.
- Interest in livestock care or agriculture (training provided).
- Willingness to work with tools and historic methods.
- Dependable, safety-conscious team member.
SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION
- Seasonal internship: late May through mid-August 2026.
- Approximately 20–32 hours per week; weekends and event days required.
- Stipend or hourly wage to be determined.
