Job description

Summary

Garmin International, Inc. is seeking a full-time Industrial Designer 1 at their U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. The role involves collaborating with engineering and leadership partners to create innovative product designs for the Outdoor, Fitness, and Marine markets, contributing throughout the entire product lifecycle from initial sketches to mass production.

Responsibilities

  • Explore a wide variety of compelling design options for Garmin's consumer product markets
  • Understand and apply future trends in design, technology, and materials
  • Create 3D models using Solidworks and OnShape for product development and prototyping
  • Communciate concepts and ideas through verbal, visual, and written means
  • Understand needs and desires of our customers
  • Collaborate with design, engineering, marketing, and management teams to translate project goals into relevant design solutions
  • Work with a team of prototype specialists to create in-house appearance models

Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Must demonstrate knowledge, education, experience and/or training necessary to use tools such as SolidWorks, OnShape, Keyshot, CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Procreate, and Sketchbook Pro
  • Excellent hand sketching skills
  • Ability to rapidly explore a wide variety of styling options (forms, colors, finishes, materials, etc.)
  • Courage to explore new ideas
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or related field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
