Job description

Summary

Jacobs is an engineering and professional services company solving critical problems across energy and other industries. The Transmission Planning/Studies Engineer will support or lead transmission planning and bulk power system studies, project delivery, business development, and proposal activities for utility clients in the Northeast United States. The role includes conducting steady-state and transient studies, coordinating with utilities and global teams, and participating in ISO/RTO stakeholder forums and technical committees.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of steady-state and transient power system studies
  • Participate in meetings with utilities as part of project delivery or business development
  • Lead or support project(s) throughout the whole lifecycle (i.e. from the technical bid/proposal to execution, reports, client meetings/presentations, to close-out)
  • Work closely with the team members across North America and globally
  • Participate in ISO/RTO stakeholder forums and other applicable technical committees and stay up to date with latest standards and requirements

Skills

  • The successful candidate shall demonstrate related experience and technical knowledge in transmission planning and bulk system studies, planning processes and good handle over FERC, NERC and NPCC standards and processes as well as direct experience with at least one of the following ISOs ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM, and/or IESO
  • Strong background and experience in performing system impact studies and transmission planning using PSS/E, TARA, and PSCAD is a must
  • This position is flexible anywhere in North America
  • Advanced degree in Electrical/Power Systems Engineering, from a recognized institution
  • Minimum 4 years of direct experience with power system studies using PSS/E, TARA and/or PSCAD
  • Strong background with at least one of the following system operators ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM, IESO
  • Up to date knowledge and experience with NERC, FERC, and NPCC reliability standards
  • Team player with great interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel within North America
  • Direct experience with National Grid and/or Eversource
  • Experience with large loads such as data centers
  • Professional Engineer (PE or PEng) License
