Junior Software Engineer

Summary

Leidos is an industry and technology leader serving government and commercial customers with smarter, more efficient digital and mission innovations. They are seeking a motivated and ambitious Junior Software Engineer to join their Software, Simulation, Systems Engineering and Integration Directorate, where the role involves hands-on software system development and collaboration with subject matter experts.

Responsibilities

• Performs hands-on software system development from lab to field application
• Determines computing system requirements
• Analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls
• Prepare operating instructions
• Design and develop autonomous services, desktop applications, scripts, and utility programs. End product is special use and customized software

Skills

• BS degree and 2 – 4 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with less than 2 years of prior relevant experience
• Proficiency in one or more of the following programming languages: C# or Java
• Experience with system integration, message handling, and data exchange protocols
• Familiarity with API inputs and outputs
• Understanding of markup languages (e.g., XML, YAML, HTML)
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, version control, and agile methodologies
• Knowledge of DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with Windows and Linux OS
• Understanding of cybersecurity principles and secure coding practices
• Strong analytical and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks and projects and to work independently
• 1-year+ professional software development experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must possess and be able to maintain a Secret clearance
• Must be a resident of Huntsville, AL or willing to relocate to the Huntsville, AL area
• Proficiency in one or more of the following scripting languages: Bash, Python, or PowerShell
• Effective written and oral communication skills are also required to work with all levels of staff and managers
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
