The Michigan Supreme Court is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position ofInternship or Externship to Justice Elizabeth M. Welch. The expected commitment is 10 to 25hours per week and will begin in January 2027 and last through May 2027. Some in-personavailability at the Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing on Wednesdays is strongly preferred. Theterm of the position and scheduling can be flexibly adapted to fit individual candidate needs,including requirements for receiving school credit.Selected candidates will conduct legal research, analyze materials, and draft memoranda.Students will have a unique opportunity to observe oral arguments in matters pending beforethe Michigan Supreme Court. The chambers is collegial and supportive, with excellent resourcesand workspace. Interns/Externs must be able to work collaboratively but must also beindependently organized and able to work autonomously. All assigned work is strictlyconfidential, and interns/externs must agree to take an oath of confidentiality.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Current Juris Doctor (JD) candidate from an accredited lawschool and completion of 1L coursework. Strong research, analytical, and legal writing skills areessential, including proficiency in current word processing and online legal research tools. Allinterns/externs must pass a criminal background check prior to their start date.LOCATION: Hall of Justice, Lansing, Michigan.
