Job description

Internships are educational hands-on opportunities that provide unique NASA-related research and operational experiences for undergraduate and graduate students (age 16 and up). To learn more, visit https://intern.nasa.gov.

During this internship, the selected intern will provide testing and analysis support to the Anthropometry and Biomechanics Facility (ABF) for human-spacesuit evaluations. The intern will support data collection during suited and unsuited testing. The data that will be collected during these evaluations include motion capture, subjective questionnaires, video, wearable sensors, 3D scanners, etc. Spacesuit to human interactions and performance capabilities for people of different anthropometric ranges will be assessed.

The intern will also process and clean test data for analysis of metrics such as mobility, comfort, functionality, and performance. Specifically, quantitative and qualitative data analyses will be performed using approaches/techniques in human factors, biomechanics, and ergonomics. The selected intern will participate in work that ensures that all current and future astronauts can be accommodated to work comfortably and effectively with spaceflight hardware such as the spacesuit, vehicles, and habitats. The full-time intern is expected to complete working hours during the center’s core work hours of M-F 8AM-5PM PST. The intern will participate in on-site work and onsite-meetings at Johnson Space Center.
