Summary
Netflix is a streaming entertainment company focused on pushing the boundaries of storytelling through creativity and technology. The Design Engineer, Design Systems will develop productivity tools and automations that accelerate product design workflows, contribute to the adoption of the Design System, and deliver medium-to-large features. The role also involves user research, stakeholder collaboration, support resolution, and maintaining the reliability of design-system capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Contributing, maintaining, and expanding critical design component libraries and capabilities supporting hundreds of internal users (React)
- Implementing AI solutions, when appropriate, that measurably accelerate product design workflows
- Execute on projects, working from ideation to implementation to rollout
- Participating internal user-research to gather insights to inform prioritization and feature development
- Completing medium to large features independently with limited guidance
- Help triage and resolve support requests related to the Design System portfolio
- Work with designers and engineers across other teams to maintain the integrity and reliability of the Design System portfolio
- Participate in on-call rotation to continue to meet our critical SLAs
- Participate in design and code reviews
Skills
- 3+ years of professional experience designing, building, and shipping software
- Experience with single page applications architecture, patterns, and design
- Experience fetching data from GraphQL and REST APIs
- Experience with client-side instrumentation and observability
- Ability to drive features and communicate effectively with your team and partners
- Able to contribute to design, architect, debug, test, and create well-documented code
- Proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, and Node.js
- You're known for your excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- You have an ownership mentality in all the things you build and are comfortable with identifying improvements and proposing them to your team
- You take a thoughtful, practical approach to problem-solving that considers tradeoffs and avoids over-engineering
- You're motivated by the scope and impact to contribute to discussions that shape the future of design workflows
- You're data driven and lean on both qualitative and quantitative data to drive your decision making
- You have a strong intuition for user experience flows
- Experience managing web applications with complex state management
- Current/former professional experience working with Figma Plugins
- Bonus if you've contributed to open-source projects
