A number of the Department’s Divisions offer unpaid student internships. Each Division runs its own program in coordination with the Division of Administration, Human Resource Management, with different deadlines and application requirements, as described below. To apply for an internship, submit your materials using the contact information provided by the relevant Division.
The Office of Justice Data’s (OJD) mandate is to expand and modernize the agency’s data collection, analysis, and transparency initiatives. We collect, consolidate, process, and publish data on criminal justice and law enforcement activity in New Jersey, and perform ad hoc data collection and analysis at need. We value expertise and interest in government, politics, criminal justice, statistics, computer science, applied mathematics, data science, and similar fields.
OJD typically accepts interns currently engaged in or recently graduated from a course of study in a quantitative or social science field. Interns in OJD may work part-time or full-time at our office in the Richard J. Hughes Justice Complex in Trenton. Internships are currently unpaid, and all intern work must be done at our Trenton location. However, we will work with your academic institution to ensure your internship qualifies for intramural funding or course credit if that is of interest to you.
To apply for an internship with OJD, please email OJDService@njoag.gov with the subject line “Internship application” and a resume and cover letter attached. In the cover letter, we’d especially like to read about your reasons for wanting to work with OJD, and how your skills and interests can help you contribute to our work.
