Summary
The employer is a California defense litigation firm representing employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators in workers' compensation and employment-related matters. The Associate Attorney will manage California workers' compensation defense matters, represent clients in WCAB proceedings, conduct litigation activities, draft legal documents, evaluate claims, negotiate settlements, and communicate with relevant stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Manage California workers' compensation defense matters from assignment through resolution
- Represent employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators in WCAB proceedings
- Attend hearings, conferences, depositions, trials, and other workers' compensation litigation events
- Draft pleadings, reports, settlement documents, correspondence, and case evaluations
- Analyze claims, evaluate exposure, and help develop efficient defense strategies
- Communicate with clients, claims professionals, opposing counsel, medical providers, and experts
- Negotiate settlements and work toward practical, cost-effective outcomes
- Use technology and strong organization to manage files efficiently in a remote environment
Skills
- Active California Bar license in good standing
- 1+ year of California workers' compensation defense experience required
- Strong writing, communication, organization, and client service skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote role while staying responsive and deadline-oriented
- Must currently live in Orange County or Los Angeles County, California
- Experience handling WCAB appearances, hearings, settlements, and file management preferred
- Employer, carrier, or TPA defense experience strongly preferred
