Research & Strategy Intern

The OEP internship program includes seasonal internships in the organization’s various departments including marketing and communications, economic development, government affairs, and programs and events.

Beyond core responsibilities, interns will have the opportunity to contribute their unique skills and perspectives to address challenges or questions that arise within their team or for the broader organization. This could involve participating in special projects or assisting colleagues with tasks outside the intern’s initial job description. We encourage a flexible and collaborative work style, where interns are willing to learn and support the team’s success.

The Research & Strategy intern provides support to the OEP’s Research & Strategy team and reports to the Director of Research & Strategy.

The OEP’s award-winning Research & Strategy team combines economic data and local intelligence to understand the key trends impacting Orlando’s economy. The team’s work helps companies, site selectors, and civic leaders make well-informed decisions about Orlando’s growth, and allows the OEP to be evidence-led and insight-driven.

The Research & Strategy intern will support the team through data collection and validation, research project coordination, database management and other activities that contribute to overall department performance and efficiency.

This position provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in regional economic development research, including a variety of software and research platforms such as Datawrapper, ArcGIS, WordPress, and Lightcast, among others.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collect, organize, and update data for recurring research products and data-driven resources.
  • Assist with the preparation and maintenance of research products and tools used to communicate regional economic and business trends, including economic indicators and market intelligence reports.
  • Support survey administration activities, including outreach list management, respondent tracking and data organization.
  • Support the production and distribution of research content and communications.
  • Contribute to data automation and process improvement projects designed to enhance the efficiency and scalability of the Research & Strategy team.
  • Provide general project and administrative support to the Research & Strategy team as needed.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn new software platforms, databases, and research tools quickly.
  • Ability to work independently and manage assignments with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, responsiveness and commitment to providing a high level of service.

INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS The position is open to individuals at least 18 years of age who are currently enrolled in a university or college as an undergraduate or graduate student. Candidates with a demonstrated interest in research, data analysis, business intelligence, and market research are particularly encouraged to apply.

Candidates should be able to work 20 hours per week.
