Summary
Peak Credit Union is seeking an Accountant to support its Accounting department and maintain accurate financial records. The role performs general ledger maintenance and reconciliation, prepares journal entries and financial reports, supports audits and regulatory reporting, and resolves accounting discrepancies.
Responsibilities
- Ensures accounts are accurately charged and maintains systematic records of credit union transactions. Researches and resolves discrepancies and accounting errors
- Develops and maintains various workbooks to monitor daily and monthly credit union activity
- Maintains and reconciles daily, monthly, quarterly, and annually assigned general ledger accounts. Researches and identifies differences and uses sound judgement to provide guidance to appropriate employees to correct and resolve issues
- Collaborates with all branches and departments to obtain information, resolve issues and/or correct transactions related to the accounting function
- Leverages knowledge of GAAP to prepare daily, monthly, quarterly, and annually assigned journal entries
- Assists in the preparation of month end financial statements and accounting reports
- Provides support during credit union audits by working with internal and external auditors and credit union examiners as directed
- Assists as needed in the preparation of state, federal, regulatory and tax reporting (5300 Call Report, FR2900, Unclaimed Property, Personal Property Taxes, US Census)
- Maintains current knowledge and cross-training to periodically complete credit union cash management and to effectively perform duties as needed to support accounting staff

Skills
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- A minimum of two (2) years of accounting experience in a financial institution
- Intermediate knowledge of Excel formulas and functions such as pivot tables and lookups, for use in reconciliation and analysis of credit union and member transactions
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices to maintain accurate and organized accounting files and documentation
- Excellent problem-solving abilities to investigate and resolve outstanding items and accounting errors
- Knowledge of intermediate GAAP accounting principles and familiarity with accounting databases and tables
- Ability to collaborate with branches and departments to gather information, resolve issues, and correct accounting transactions
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accurate reporting and recording of various credit union transactions
- Maintains advanced knowledge of various credit union systems and applications, and able to use for research, analysis and reporting
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field of study
- Previous experience of general ledger and detailed subsidiary ledger account reconciliation and reporting experience in a financial institution preferred
