Summary
Peoplease is a professional employer organization providing payroll, human resources, benefits, and risk management solutions to small and medium-sized businesses. The Data Scientist will support the CFO’s function through data-driven analysis, modeling, data pipeline development, visualization, documentation, and scalable analytical tooling.
Responsibilities
- Understands the business questions the CFO's function is trying to answer and translate them into a clear analytical approach
- Source relevant data, build working examples, and iterate quickly based on feedback
- Apply a solid grasp of data structures and capabilities to identify the most efficient path to an answer
- Maintain a solution-focused mindset, balancing rigor with speed and practicality
- Build and maintain data pipelines and models to support recurring analysis and reporting needs
- Validate and reconcile data pulled from multiple source systems to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Identify and resolve data quality issues, gaps, or discrepancies across systems
- Create visualizations and dashboards that make findings clear and usable for decision-making
- Present analysis and recommendations to the CFO and other stakeholders in an accessible way
- Document methodology and assumptions thoroughly so work is repeatable and auditable
- Prototype tools and processes that can eventually be scaled to support the broader organization
- Recommend improvements to data infrastructure, systems, and workflows that support analytical work
- Stay current on data science tools and practices, applying them where they add practical value
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field; equivalent experience considered
- 3+ years of experience in data science, data analysis, or a related quantitative role
- Strong proficiency in a data analysis language such as Python or R, and in SQL alongside ability to leverage AI tools
- Experience building and maintaining data pipelines and models
- Experience validating and reconciling data across multiple source systems
- Proficiency with visualization and dashboarding tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar)
- Strong documentation habits, with the ability to make methodology and assumptions clear to others
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a practical, solution-oriented approach
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings to non-technical stakeholders
- Self-starter with the ability to function as a remote employee in a distributed work team
- Experience supporting finance, risk, or operations functions a plus
