Job description

Summary

Personify Health is a personalized health platform that combines health plan administration, wellbeing solutions, and care navigation to improve health outcomes. The Data Engineer, EDI role tests and troubleshoots HIPAA X12 transactions, resolves production issues, develops test documentation and data, and coordinates with trading partners and technical teams to ensure accurate healthcare data exchange.

Responsibilities

  • Validate HIPAA X12 transaction sets — 837 (I/P/D), 835, 834, 270/271, and 276/277 — to confirm claims, eligibility, and remittance data moves correctly between systems
  • Dig into loops, segments, elements, and qualifiers to pinpoint exactly where a transaction broke, then partner with development teams to fix the mapping or programming issue
  • Investigate and close out trading partner and vendor transaction problems as they surface in production, keeping data flowing without disruption
  • Create test plans, test cases, and Companion Guide documentation that keep every EDI transaction set audit-ready and consistent
  • Lead UAT, SIT, and end-to-end testing for new vendor onboarding, system enhancements, and HIPAA version upgrades (4010/5010)
  • Build and maintain mock 837I/837P claim data so testing cycles have realistic, reliable inputs to work against
  • Act as the go-between for trading partners, clients, and internal technical and non-technical teams — gathering requirements and closing the loop on issue resolution
  • Log incidents and enhancement requests in JIRA and maintain project documentation in Confluence, so nothing falls through the cracks
  • Check ICD-9/ICD-10 and HCPCS coding as part of claims and EDI testing to catch errors before they hit production
  • Show up in sprint planning and sprint review, keeping testing work aligned with the broader development roadmap

Skills

  • 3+ years of experience with healthcare EDI transactions and HIPAA 4010/5010 standards
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business, Life Sciences, or equivalent experience
  • Hands-on experience testing and troubleshooting X12 transaction sets (837, 835, 834, 270/271, 276/277)
  • Experience working directly with EDI trading partners, payers, or vendors on connectivity and transaction issues
  • Experience writing test plans, test cases, and technical/Companion Guide documentation
  • Working knowledge of relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle, or similar)
  • Familiarity with EDI testing/translation tools (e.g., Edifecs, ClarEDI, or similar)
  • Understanding of claims, eligibility, enrollment, and remittance/adjudication processes
  • Working knowledge of JIRA and Confluence
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum ceremonies and workflows
  • Master's degree a plus
