Job description

Summary

Precept is a nonprofit Christian Bible Study ministry headquartered in Chattanooga, Tennessee. They are seeking a Graphic Designer who will be responsible for translating established creative direction into engaging designs for both digital and print channels, ensuring high visual impact and adherence to brand standards.

Responsibilities

  • Executes creative direction established by the Art Director, producing finished assets across campaigns and projects from brief to delivery
  • Produces assets for digital marketing (advertising graphics, social media graphics, website content, and related formats) as well as print marketing pieces (study materials, portfolios, swag, and related formats) for Precept goods, services, and ideas
  • Manages and completes print projects accurately and on schedule. Prepares print-ready files, works with vendors to gather samples, quotes, and timelines, and ensures on-time delivery while maintaining quality control throughout
  • Performs press checks when necessary, visually inspecting and approving printed marketing and branding materials prior to press release or production to confirm technical accuracy and consistent production standards
  • Upholds Precept's brand identity and standards, applying brand guidelines consistently across all assets and flagging ambiguities or gaps to the Art Director
  • Maintains working knowledge of current design trends and how they inform visual communication decisions
  • Manages personal workflow according to priorities established by the Art Director, working efficiently under deadlines and identifying timeline risks before they affect delivery
  • Develops and maintains a resource library, cataloging marketing assets within a central repository to keep the team's files organized and accessible
  • Oversees postage and mailing logistics for printed marketing materials, including coordinating shipments, purchasing postage, and confirming on-time delivery
  • Supports the onboarding of contract designers by orienting them to file organization, brand guidelines, and workflow expectations
  • Other duties as assigned by the Art Director

Skills

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, with demonstrated ability to work efficiently across Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign for both digital and print output
  • Strong command of production fundamentals: file preparation, color management, print specifications, and digital asset sizing across formats and platforms
  • Ability to accurately execute within established brand guidelines and maintain consistency across a high volume of assets
  • Awareness of current design trends and how they inform visual communication decisions, with curiosity to keep developing that knowledge over time
  • Understanding of design techniques including effective use of color, typography, and layout, paired with practical knowledge of print and digital production standards
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines consistently, and communicate proactively when priorities shift
  • Clear and professional communication with internal teammates and external partners, including vendors and contract designers
  • Ability to receive creative direction and feedback constructively, incorporate input into work, and ask clarifying questions when direction is ambiguous
  • Understanding of how visual decisions contribute to marketing performance, with interest in learning how design connects to audience response and measurable outcomes
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and carry projects through to completion with minimal supervision
  • Portfolio required. Work should demonstrate technical production quality, brand consistency across multiple assets, and experience with both digital and print formats
  • Three or more years of graphic design or production design experience required
  • Bachelor's degree in art, design, or a related field preferred
  • Familiarity with or experience in a Bible study publisher, Christian ministry, or nonprofit a plus
  • Familiarity with or experience using the Precept Bible Study Method a plus
