About the company

We are a solutions provider that leads projects throughout all their lifecycles, from conceptual design to detailed engineering and construction management.

Job description

Summary

Redtree Engineering provides engineering, project management, and construction support services for mission-critical facilities, power systems, industrial projects, and complex infrastructure. The Senior Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will lead I&C design and development for distributed generation and district energy projects across the full project lifecycle, while coordinating with other disciplines, supporting procurement and commissioning, reviewing deliverables, and interfacing with clients.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of control system architecture, I/O lists, control narratives, logic diagrams, and cause and effect diagrams for DCS and/or PLC systems
  • Develop and manage instrumentation design deliverables, including instrument lists, data sheets, specifications, installation details, and location plans
  • Develop wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, and interconnection drawings
  • Coordinate the development of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) with process and mechanical engineering teams
  • Perform instrumentation engineering calculations and sizing, including control valves, flow measurement devices, and thermowells
  • Apply knowledge of measurement technologies and control strategies to select instrumentation for pressure, temperature, flow, level, and analytical measurements
  • Participate in process safety activities, including HAZOP studies and design reviews, and incorporate findings into control system design
  • Support procurement activities, including technical specifications, RFQ documentation, bid evaluations, and vendor submittal review
  • Coordinate with control system vendors and suppliers, including participation in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
  • Provide technical support during construction, installation, and commissioning, including field inspections and issue resolution
  • Serve as a client point of contact on defined I&C scope, under the guidance of a discipline lead
  • Review deliverables and provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure an integrated design approach

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, or related degree, from an ABET-accredited program
  • 6-8 years of relevant engineering experience; EPC project experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control system design principles, practices, and industry standards (ISA, ANSI, IEEE)
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience developing or reviewing P&IDs, loop diagrams, and instrument data sheets
  • Experience developing control logic and system control narratives
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation selection and specification
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform quality reviews of detailed engineering documents and specifications
  • Willingness to travel to project/construction sites as needed (20% estimated)
  • Must be able to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, or active pursuit of licensure
  • Demonstrated experience in a client-facing technical role on I&C scope
  • Experience supporting process safety reviews (HAZOP, PHA) and developing interlock/control documentation
  • Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of junior engineers
