Summary
The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University is seeking a motivated undergraduate student for an AI/ML Research Support Internship. The role focuses on gaining hands-on experience in AI/ML data preparation and contributing to meaningful research, particularly in labeling and annotating datasets and supporting model development.
Responsibilities
- Label and annotate diverse datasets with a primary focus on geospatial data such as tracks, images, video, text, and sensor data
- Support AI/ML model development for Navy, Department of Defense (DoD), and Intelligence Community (IC) applications
- Utilize industry-standard and custom labeling tools while collaborating with AI/ML researchers and engineers to understand requirements and contribute to data quality assurance processes
Skills

- Undergraduate students in a STEM major (Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Data Science, Information Sciences, or related fields)
- Drive to learn and grow in the AI/ML field

- Strong attention to detail
- Eligible to obtain a government security clearance
- Participate in the ARL drug testing program
- Comply with electronic and physical monitoring requirements applicable to federal contractors
- Must be a U.S. citizen to apply

- Familiarity with geospatial concepts or mapping technologies
- Previous experience with data analysis or annotation at any level
