Job description
Summary
VAE, Inc. is a full service IT Infrastructure Solutions Company focused on building, securing and supporting our clients’ mission critical enterprises. The Software Developer role involves designing, developing, and automating software solutions for mission-critical systems, emphasizing Python-based development and Ansible-driven infrastructure automation.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain software applications and automation tooling primarily in Python
- Build and maintain Ansible playbooks and roles to automate configuration management, deployment, and infrastructure provisioning
- Collaborate with systems engineers, program stakeholders, and government customers to translate mission requirements into working software
- Troubleshoot and resolve software defects, performance issues, and integration challenges across development and production environments
- Participate in code reviews, contribute to technical documentation, and follow established software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices
- Support integration efforts across C5ISR systems, ensuring solutions align with program technical and security requirements
- Identify opportunities to improve automation, reliability, and efficiency across supported systems and workflows
Skills
- Active Top Secret clearance required
- An active DOD 8570 certification required
- Strong, hands-on professional experience developing software in Python
- Strong, hands-on experience developing and managing automation with Ansible
- Demonstrated experience across the full software development lifecycle, from design through deployment and support
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a remote, distributed team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work directly with technical and government stakeholders
- Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code provisioning software
- Experience working within cyber security or cyber operations environments
- Experience with Elastic (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana / the Elastic Stack)
- Familiarity with C5ISR, DoD, or other federal mission systems
- Based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area a plus but this position would operate 100% remote
