Job description

Summary

Wellspoken is a communication coaching company that helps people improve through personalized feedback and practice. The Product Design Intern will shape its consumer app by owning features from ideation through launch, designing intuitive mobile experiences, and developing skills in visual design, interaction, motion, and design engineering.

Responsibilities

  • You'll own features from early ideas and user flows through polished screens and interactions. You'll have room to propose improvements, explore different directions, and make product decisions with the team. We value people who notice what could be better and take initiative to move it forward
  • You'll get hands-on feedback from our founders on visual design, interaction details, and product thinking. You'll learn how to turn a prototype into a shipped feature, then improve it based on how people actually use it. If you want to grow into design engineering, we'll coach you through implementing your designs. You don't need engineering experience to join
  • You’ll deepen your craft in consumer UI, interaction design, and motion, learning how transitions, microinteractions, and animation make an app feel responsive and delightful. There’s room to explore tools like Rive and Lottie and learn how those details become part of a production app

Skills

  • A portfolio showing thoughtful product design and strong visual craft, especially consumer or mobile interfaces
  • Care for typography, spacing, hierarchy, and the small interactions that make an app feel good to use
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to improve your work through feedback
  • At least 30 hours per week on average
  • This internship is open to current undergraduates at Virginia colleges or universities
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
  • We prefer someone interested in a full-time commitment, with flexibility in how those hours are scheduled
