Summary
World Wide Technology provides technology solutions and infrastructure services for enterprise and public sector organizations. The Infrastructure Engineer will strengthen infrastructure security through patching, vulnerability remediation, lifecycle management, and automation across Windows, Linux, VMware, Azure, and related platforms. The role also coordinates remediation activities, supports infrastructure operations, and improves reporting, governance, and maintenance processes.
Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Patching & Lifecycle Management: Plan, coordinate, and improve patching and lifecycle management processes for Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and other infrastructure components across on-premises and cloud environments
- Vulnerability Management & Remediation Ownership: Partner closely with Information Security and operational teams to analyze vulnerability scan results, prioritize remediation based on risk, track progress against remediation timelines, and drive timely closure of critical and high-risk infrastructure vulnerabilities
- Core Infrastructure Engineering & Support: Provide tier-2/tier-3 operational support for Windows and RHEL systems, troubleshooting complex OS-level performance, storage, networking, and boot issues for internal IT customers
- Automation & Patch Orchestration: Leverage PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform, Python, enterprise tooling, and AI-enabled agents to automate patch deployment, pre- and post-validation, vulnerability response workflows, reporting, configuration management, and recurring system administration tasks. Identify opportunities to use or build AI agents that assist with patch planning, remediation prioritization, maintenance readiness checks, exception analysis, and operational follow-up
- Maintenance Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement: Work directly with application owners, infrastructure teams, Information Security, and vendors to coordinate maintenance windows, communicate patching impacts, resolve blockers, and align remediation plans with business and operational needs
- Compliance Reporting & Governance: Develop and maintain patch compliance reporting, vulnerability remediation trackers, exception documentation, and recurring operational reviews to provide clear visibility into infrastructure risk, remediation progress, and areas requiring escalation
- Operational Readiness & Documentation: Maintain technical runbooks, patch procedures, validation checklists, rollback plans, operational ticket queues, and knowledge documentation to support repeatable, auditable, and low-disruption infrastructure maintenance
Skills
- Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field with 3+ years of hands-on system engineering experience; OR equivalent technical experience (5+ years in enterprise OS administration)
- Strong operational knowledge and administration experience with both Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Microsoft Windows Server in an enterprise environment
- Hands-on experience provisioning and managing operating systems across both on-premises infrastructure and public cloud environments, specifically Microsoft Azure
- Hands-on experience executing enterprise patch management processes, interpreting vulnerability scan results, prioritizing remediation activity, and partnering with Information Security teams to reduce critical and high-risk infrastructure exposure
- Demonstrated proficiency writing automation scripts or infrastructure code using at least two of the following: PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform, or Python
- Solid working knowledge of core infrastructure primitives, including virtualization platforms such as VMware/vSphere, local and network storage configurations, TCP/IP networking, DNS, and Active Directory integration
- Proven ability to support internal IT customer teams, communicate technical requirements clearly, and drive collaborative problem resolution
- Preferred locations: MO, VA
- This position requires permanent U.S. work authorization. Candidates requiring current or future visa sponsorship, including those on OPT, CPT or H1/H4, are not eligible for this role
- Experience provisioning and supporting operating system images across additional cloud providers, including Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)
- Hands-on experience utilizing enterprise-grade management, patching, virtualization lifecycle, and vulnerability tools such as Red Hat Satellite, Tanium, Tenable/Nessus, Microsoft management platforms, or VMware Lifecycle Manager
- Proven track record of improving enterprise patch compliance, reducing vulnerability remediation backlogs, shortening patch cycle times, increasing automation coverage, or improving maintenance window predictability
- Familiarity with AI-enabled tools, copilots, workflow assistants, or agentic automation platforms, with an interest in applying AI to infrastructure operations, patch planning, vulnerability analysis, documentation, reporting, and process optimization
- Relevant technical certifications validating OS, Cloud, or Automation skills, such as RHCSA, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate
- Familiarity with ITIL processes, formal change management, maintenance window scheduling, and incident management frameworks
