Summary
Zimmer Biomet is a global medical technology company focused on improving patient mobility. The company seeks a 2027 Summer Intern to help build and maintain its Data Product Portal and contribute to data platform engineering, data product development, observability, and AI enablement in a regulated life sciences environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of the Data Product Portal (Streamlit), building the catalog, discovery, and detail pages that help business teams find and understand available data products across the organization
- Contribute to data product onboarding workflows, including database provisioning, schema setup, and role configuration using infrastructure as code (Pulumi)
- Assist with platform observability, including building dashboards and reports for cost attribution, usage monitoring, and RBAC compliance
- Support Cortex AI enablement work, including semantic view development, Cortex Agent configuration, and testing AI capabilities against real data products
- Write and maintain platform documentation, knowledge base articles, and operational runbooks that enable domain teams to work with the platform independently
- Participate in architecture discussions and team planning, gaining exposure to how platform decisions are made in a regulated enterprise environment
- Learn and apply data mesh principles including domain ownership, federated governance, and data product lifecycle management
Skills
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field
- Familiarity with Python and SQL (coursework or projects)
- Interest in cloud data platforms, data engineering, or data product development
- Exposure to Snowflake, dbt, Pulumi, Terraform, or similar tools through coursework or personal projects
- Curiosity about AI and machine learning applied to data platforms
- Strong written communication skills and comfort with documentation
- Self starter who can take ownership of a project and drive it forward with guidance
- Must be actively enrolled in an academic program for the entire duration of the assignment
- Bachelor's or Master's program in databases, cloud computing, or software engineering
- Junior or Senior standing in a technical degree program
- Must be available to work full-time (40 hours/week) throughout the co-op session
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring employer sponsorship
- Experience with Streamlit, Flask, or similar Python web frameworks is a plus but not required
