Summary
Al Otro Lado is a bi-national advocacy and legal aid organization serving migrants, refugees and deportees in the United States and Mexico. The Data & Policy Analyst will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data related to immigration policies to support evidence-based advocacy efforts.
Responsibilities
- Collect, organize, and manage mixed-methods data related to immigration policies and programs
- Develop and maintain databases or access existing databases to manage and analyze data on immigration policies
- Analyze quantitative data through advanced statistical analysis using Stata, R and/or Python
- Generate qualitative and mixed-methods data with Qualtrics and analyze mixed-methods data using Nvivo or Atlas.ti
- Develop data-driven policy recommendations based on quantitative and qualitative analyses and research
- Demonstrate strong research, writing, analytical and communications skills through the drafting of data visualizations and policy reports to communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders
- Collaborate with other staff members to develop and implement advocacy campaigns and strategies
- Monitor and analyze changes in immigration policies and programs and assess their impact on immigration
- Represent the organization at meetings, conferences, and other events related to immigration policy and advocacy, including providing briefings
- Perform other duties as needed in keeping with the mission of the organization
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field + 1-3 years of experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, or related fields also acceptable
- Strong quantitative skills and experience with data analysis tools
- Experience with large datasets and at least one statistical analysis software or programming language
- Familiarity with immigration policies, programs, and regulations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to synthesize complex information and analyses into multiple formats such as policy memos and long-form policy reports
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Master's degree in a relevant field such as statistics, data science, or public policy preferred
- Spanish or Haitian Kreyol proficiency a plus
- Experience with Eimmigration highly preferred
