Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California (AJSOCAL) offers internships and law clerkships for undergraduate, graduate, and law students seeking meaningful work experience at a public interest organization. Our internship program is designed first and foremost to benefit the intern through hands-on learning, mentorship, and professional development.
All interns, regardless of unit, receive the following as part of their experience with AJSOCAL:
What Every AJSOCAL Intern Receives
- Orientation: A comprehensive intern orientation covering AJSOCAL’s history, mission, programs, and organizational structure
- Mentorship: Access to AJSOCAL’s cross-unit Mentorship and Networking Program, where interns can connect with staff and attorneys across departments for career conversations and professional guidance
- Drop-In Hours: Scheduled drop-in hours with supervisors and staff in other units throughout the internship
- Brown Bags and Learning Sessions: Opportunities to attend 2-3 brown bag sessions hosted by different units, offering exposure to the full breadth of AJSOCAL’s legal and advocacy work
- Weekly Check-Ins: Regular one-on-one check-ins with your supervisor to discuss goals, progress, and areas for growth
- Mid-Internship and Exit Evaluations: Formal feedback from your supervisor at mid-point and end of internship to support your development
- Academic Credit Support: AJSOCAL will cooperate fully with your school’s requirements, including signing learning agreements, completing evaluation forms, and providing documentation for credit
- No Job Guarantee: This internship does not include any promise or expectation of paid employment at AJSOCAL upon completion
- No Compensation: This is an unpaid internship. Any promise of compensation is not implied or expressed

Overview
The Communications Intern supports AJSOCAL’s Communications team in creating digital content, campaigns, and materials to strengthen the organization’s reach and engagement, particularly among young advocates ages 18-25. This internship offers students interested in communications, marketing, and social justice an opportunity to develop real-world digital skills in a mission-driven environment.
What You Will Gain
- Hands-on experience in digital content creation including social media, graphics, and blog writing
- Understanding of integrated communications strategy in the nonprofit and advocacy sector
- Development of social media management and digital analytics skills
- Experience supporting a large-scale fundraising event (Annual Gala)
- Exposure to storytelling and community engagement for AAPI and immigrant communities
- Mentorship from experienced communications and marketing professionals
Key Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist in capturing communications assets including photos and video
- Assist with creation of historical posts about Asian American and organizational history
- Assist in creation of digital content (IG Reels, TikTok, social media graphics, blog posts, and printed materials)
- Create optimized versions of digital content for different platforms and uses
- Identify API student groups and execute digital campaigns targeting young advocates ages 18-25
- Increase website traffic and expand email subscriber list
- Utilize automated publishing platforms such as Hootsuite
- Support Annual Fundraising Gala communications
- Limited administrative duties as required
Qualifications
- Authentic appreciation and/or knowledge of AANHPI issues
- Skills with social media, text campaigns, and website management
- Proficiency in digital analysis
- Excellent writing skills
- Comfort with business culture and protocol
- High school degree required
Schedule and Compensation
This is a hybrid position. A minimum of 15 hours per week is preferred. This is an unpaid internship open to candidates seeking academic credit. Applications are open for Winter, Spring, and Summer 2027.
