Bright Harbor helps companies, organizations and governments prepare and respond to natural disasters

Job description

Summary

Bright Harbor is a mission-driven company that helps communities recover from disasters by coordinating survivors, governments, and stakeholders through its platform. The Financial Operations Associate will own the company’s finance and operational processes end to end, including monthly close, spend management, payroll, cash forecasting, invoicing, equity records, registrations, procurement, and contract administration.

Responsibilities

  • Own the monthly close: do the work, hit the deadline, and deliver clean, accurate numbers each month, with our fractional CFO reviewing and advising on judgment calls
  • Manage day-to-day spend on Ramp: review and categorize charges, keep spending under control, and flag anything unusual
  • Prepare expense reports for client reimbursed expenses
  • Run payroll through our PEO accurately and on schedule
  • Track cash weekly and maintain our forecasts so leadership always has a clear view of what is happening
  • Manage accounts receivable: send invoices, track them, and follow up on outstanding payments
  • Keep Carta up to date as equity changes so our cap table stays accurate
  • Own multi-state registration and contract execution: get us registered in the billing, tax, and vendor systems each state requires and keep those current and process all sales
  • Maintain a centralized tracker of procurement requirements, milestones, deadlines, and contracting status and coordinate with sales team to ensure compliance
  • Handle contract administration: send NDAs and standard agreements, route them to the right owners, track signatures, and escalate anything requiring legal review to leadership or counsel
  • Build and maintain the systems and calendar that keep all of this running reliably
  • Grow into deeper ownership of our finance operations and strategy over time

Skills

  • 2 to 4 years in finance or accounting at an operating company or startup finance team, ideally somewhere you saw the full operational picture rather than one narrow slice
  • Fluency with the modern startup finance tools: QuickBooks, Ramp, Mercury, Justworks, Carta, plus the ability to learn new tools quickly
  • The ability to analyze the numbers, not just produce them. You can look at our P&L and identify what to watch and what to flag, and you'll grow into building that model yourself
  • Strong ownership and initiative. You move things forward without waiting to be told what to do
  • Exceptional accuracy, efficiency and organization in how you do work
  • Comfort managing a compliance calendar and keeping many details current across multiple states
  • A desire to grow into a finance leadership role and take on more responsibility as you earn it
  • Genuine care for the mission
