Summary
The City of South Bend is seeking an intern for their Diversity & Inclusion department. The role involves supporting supplier diversity initiatives, conducting outreach activities, and providing administrative assistance to promote diversity within the community.
Responsibilities
- Assist in identifying and engaging potential M/WBEs for City procurement opportunities
- Support the organization and execution of workshops, webinars, and training sessions focused on supplier diversity
- Help maintain and update the supplier diversity database and track engagement metrics
- Assist in the development of educational materials and resources for M/WBEs
- Collaborate with the ODCI team to plan and implement outreach strategies to increase awareness of the City's diversity initiatives
- Attend community events, trade shows, and networking functions to promote the City’s supplier diversity programs
- Assist in the creation and distribution of marketing and promotional materials for outreach campaigns
- Support the development of communication plans to engage diverse businesses and community partners
- Provide administrative assistance for meetings, including scheduling, preparing agendas, and taking minutes
- Assist with data entry, report generation, and analysis of supplier diversity program outcomes
- Support the coordination of the annual Supplier Diversity Summit and other key events
- Conduct research on best practices in supplier diversity and outreach within municipal government
- Assist in analyzing data related to M/WBE participation and help identify areas for improvement
- Support the preparation of reports and presentations on diversity and inclusion initiatives
- Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as requested
Skills
- Current undergraduate or graduate student in good standing working toward a degree in Social Studies, Political Science, History, or Business Administration, or similar program. Recent graduates will also be considered
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in Public Administration, Business, Communications, Marketing or a related field
- Strong interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly in the context of public procurement and community engagement
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Valid Driver's license required
- Experience with event planning or community outreach is a plus
