Technical Specialist 2, Substation Engineering Design

Summary

LUMA Energy is an equal employment opportunity employer seeking a Technical Specialist 2, Substation Engineering Design. The role executes routine technical activities, supports complex technical deliverables, collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, and provides technical assistance for utility engineering projects, including design, procurement, QA/QC, field support, budgeting, and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Assist and performs assignments in specialized areas requiring technical skills
• Supports projects within scope, schedule, and cost
• Supports review of functional specifications for completeness and consider practical limitations
• Collaborates with design activities as a member of a multi-disciplinary technical team
• Supports with basic work planning, budgeting and cost estimating
• Supports development and updating single line diagrams, and design drawings, and equipment specifications. Supports material procurement
• Supports QA/QC process
• Provides technical support to field and construction groups
• Assist with and improvement processes and standards
• Collaborates with reporting, including presentations to work groups and management
• Position may be required to work extended hours including major storm restoration work and associated drills as assigned
• Other duties as assigned

Skills

• BS in a technical field from ABET-accredited college
• Two years of applicable experience or a combination of education and applicable experience. Master's degree counts as one year
• General knowledge and experience with regulations, guides, standards, codes, methods, and practices necessary to perform assignments for a specific discipline, various installations, or services
• Business knowledge in the utility & regulated environment
• Proven experience applying sound judgment to make decisions
• Strong interpersonal and relationship development skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to effectively interact with internal and external customers
• Excellent team player and ability to prioritize assignments to meet commitments
• Problem-solving skills with proven ability to resolve engineering issues
