Summary
Electric Power Engineers is a consulting and energy intelligence software company focused on complex engineering and grid modeling challenges. The Power Systems Engineer III will perform EMT and steady-state power system studies, develop and benchmark models, provide advisory support to energy-sector clients, and contribute subject matter expertise through coaching and staff development.
Responsibilities
- Perform power system studies such as subsynchronous resonance, control interaction, ferroresonance, temporary overvoltage (TOV), switching overvoltage (SOV), insulation coordination, harmonic, transient recovery voltage (TRV), energization, lightning etc
- Develop local system EMT models. perform disturbance ride through model tuning and perform PSCAD/PSSE model benchmarking
- Perform steady state studies such as load flow and short circuit
- Proficiency in power system modelling software such as the following or equivalents: PSCAD, EMTP, PSSE, Digsilent Powerfactory, PSSE, ETAP, CYMCAP
- Strong understanding of relevant industry standards such as IEEE/IEC/CICRE
- Provide advisory support to generation, large load and merchant transmission developers. Take responsibility for the timely completion of projects assigned while meeting all project quality and budget objectives
Skills
- 2+ years of experience in power system modelling and power system studies
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Electrical Engineering with power system emphasis
- Experience leveraging AI and automation tools responsibly to improve quality, productivity and innovation
- This position will be remote US
- Occasional travel may be needed (10% or less)
- Experience with control system tuning is a plus
- Experience with HVDC system is a plus
