Summary
Epiroc is a global productivity partner providing equipment, services, and digital solutions for mining and construction customers. The Radio Frequency Engineer designs, develops, and supports wireless network solutions, including conducting site surveys, creating RF propagation models and network architectures, and providing technical expertise throughout deployment and customer support.
Responsibilities
- Conduct mine site surveys, including RF propagation and interference studies, assessment of existing infrastructure, and completion of required site survey documentation
- Develop wireless network architectures and detailed designs for mining customers, including Wi-Fi and LTE/5G solutions, infrastructure placement, backhaul links, frequency plans, Bills of Materials (BOM), and test plans
- Process and edit topographic information using GIS and radio modeling tools to build and maintain accurate RF propagation models based on current customer information
- Assist the Customer Engagement Team with site assessments, preliminary wireless network designs, and development of rough order of magnitude Bills of Materials
- Develop work packages and maintain accurate technical and deployment documentation for installation teams while supporting the development and improvement of related processes
- Provide technical expertise during customer meetings and assist Sales and Product Management with technical responses to Requests for Information (RFIs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and other customer requirements
- Collaborate with Solutions Architects, Delivery, and Project Management to support wireless network design, deployment, and scheduling of technical service engagements
- Provide technical consulting and customer support related to 3D-P products and wireless network solutions as required
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline required
- Experience and demonstrated knowledge of radio test equipment, including spectrum analyzers and protocol analyzers
- Working knowledge of basic networking concepts, including IP addressing, VLANs, and network protocols
- Experience with RF radio propagation modeling and system reliability analysis
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to learn and utilize radio modeling and GIS tools, including Pathloss, Global Mapper, or similar applications
- Strong technical writing skills with the ability to accurately complete technical reports, network designs, and related project documentation
- Self-motivated with a safety-first mindset and the ability to work independently, take ownership of assigned tasks, and meet established deadlines and expectations
- Ability to travel periodically to customer and mine sites, both domestically and internationally, as business needs require
- The work environment includes both office and field-based settings, with travel to customer and mine sites where exposure to industrial equipment, outdoor weather conditions, dust, noise, and other mining-related conditions may occur
- The employee is regularly required to lift up to 25 pounds, frequently required to lift up to 50 pounds, and occasionally required to lift up to or in excess of 100 pounds
- Master's degree or equivalent advanced education is preferred
- Knowledge of LTE/5G and other wireless communication technologies is preferred
