Summary
General Dynamics Information Technology is a global technology and professional services company that provides consulting and technology services to the U.S. government and defense sectors. They are seeking a Sheet Metal Mechanic to work on shipboard construction and re-modernization, performing tasks such as operating fabricating machines and inspecting assemblies for conformance with specifications.
Responsibilities
- Sets up and operates fabricating machines including shears, brakes, bending rolls, and punch and drill presses to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal
- Shapes metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using hammer
- Sets up and operates soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts
- Smooths seams, joints, or burred surfaces using files and portable grinder or buffer
- Installs assemblies according to blueprints, engineering sketches, written instructions or manuals
- Inspects assemblies and installations for conformance with specifications, using measuring instruments including calipers, scales, and micrometer
- Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures
- Participates in special projects, as required

- Technical or vocational training preferred
