Job description
Summary
Hearst Television is seeking a Production Editor to prepare editorial content for print editions, with a primary focus on sports news in Texas newspapers. The role includes page layout, wire news decisions, copy and page editing, proofing, photo selection, headline and caption writing, and typesetting pages by deadline.
Responsibilities
- Page layout and section organization
- Wire news decision-making
- Copy editing for print
- Page editing, including headline and caption writing, photo selection and trimming stories to fit
- Proofing pages
- Typesetting pages in time for deadline
Skills
- Page layout and section organization
- Copy editing, including headline writing and caption writing
- Savvy to finish and typeset a page on time
- Experience in print news production
- Ability to work with multiple products and multiple people with a customer-service focus
- Newspaper editing, headline writing and caption writing
- Excellent literacy in English
- As such, sports journalism is a specialty sill that is necessary for success, as will the ability to work in other parts of the operation outside of sports
- Aptitude in sports story and page editing a plus
- CUE/CCI experience plus
