Summary
Inotiv is a global contract research organization that partners with researchers to advance the development of new medicines and therapies. The Enterprise Infrastructure Engineer will design, deploy, maintain, and secure virtualized server infrastructure across Windows, Linux, and Azure environments. The role will monitor performance, administer enterprise systems, support backup and disaster recovery, troubleshoot incidents, automate routine tasks, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain enterprise virtualization environments (VMware vSphere/ESXi, Hyper-V, or similar) as well as supporting Microsoft Azure-hosted virtual infrastructure
- Provision, configure, and manage Windows Server and Linux virtual machines supporting production, test, and development workloads
- Monitor infrastructure performance and capacity, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks across compute, and storage resources
- Apply patches, security updates, and firmware upgrades to hypervisors, guest operating systems, and supporting hardware on a regular maintenance cadence
- Administer core Windows Server services (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, File/Print services) and standard Linux administration tasks (user management, cron, systemd, package management, shell scripting)
- Design and maintain backup, replication, and disaster recovery processes for virtualized workloads; participate in DR testing and documentation
- Support and maintain storage systems (SAN/NAS) as they relate to virtualization infrastructure
- Maintain infrastructure documentation, including system diagrams, standard operating procedures, and configuration standards
- Respond to infrastructure incidents and provide timely troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
- Identify opportunities for automation of routine infrastructure tasks (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, or similar tooling)
- Collaborate with security, networking, and application teams to ensure infrastructure meets compliance, availability, and performance requirements
- Evaluate and recommend new tools, platforms, and practices to improve infrastructure reliability and efficiency
- Other special projects and duties as assigned
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience considered
- 3+ years of hands-on experience administering enterprise virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere/ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, or equivalent)
- Solid working knowledge of both Windows Server and Linux server administration in a production environment
- Experience with enterprise backup and disaster recovery solutions for virtualized environments
- Understanding of core networking concepts (VLANs, DNS, DHCP, firewalls, load balancing) as they apply to virtualized infrastructure
- Familiarity with storage technologies (SAN/NAS, iSCSI, NFS) in a virtualized context
- Experience with scripting or automation tools (PowerShell, Bash, Ansible, or similar) for infrastructure management
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document processes clearly for a distributed team
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure administration (e.g., virtual machines, storage, networking, and resource groups) sufficient to support hybrid on-premises/Azure infrastructure; deep or expert-level Azure architecture experience is not required for this role
- Extended computer and display screen equipment usage
- Ability to read and interpret materials, verbally communicate, and hear required
- Relevant certifications such as VMware VCP, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator, CompTIA Linux+/Server+, or RHCSA
- Experience in a regulated industry (life sciences, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or similar) with awareness of compliance frameworks such as GxP, HIPAA, or SOX
- Additional exposure to AWS and hybrid cloud/on-premises virtualization strategies
- Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Zabbix, PRTG, Nagios, or similar)
- Familiarity with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) as a complement to traditional VM infrastructure
