Job description

Summary

Leidos is a leading technology and industry company focused on delivering innovative solutions for government and commercial customers. They are seeking a Junior Linux System Administrator who will be responsible for daily system administration and operational support activities in local and wide area network environments.

Responsibilities

  • Performing daily Linux system administration and O&M support activities in support of a local area network and wide area network environments
  • Daily sustainment of existing Linux computers and servers
  • Monitoring infrastructure systems, applications, and processes
  • Ensuring that all issues are identified, tracked, and resolved in a timely manner
  • Providing support for all infrastructure systems
  • Responding to hardware and software incidents impacting local users
  • Working with and taking directions from senior system administrators
  • Configuration, setup and maintenance of numerous air-gapped Information Systems (IS) and networks
  • User account management, administration, access/controls and support
  • Installation, configuration, and management of servers and performance
  • Client-server support, Linux software packages and hardware upgrades
  • Providing regression testing on new software releases
  • Securing and maintaining all components IAW established Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) and customer directives
  • Verifying and maintaining security configuration of the multiple Information Systems
  • Patch and anti-virus definition management
  • Managing daily break/fix scenarios, updates, backups, monitoring and user management
  • Hardware troubleshooting (COTS PC, printer, networks, and encryption hardware)
  • Monitoring IT tickets and tasking to ensure requirements are addressed in a timely manner according to priority
  • Developing/documenting standard operating procedures
  • Endpoint Protection within Linux environment
  • Adhering to best practices and providing the highest quality of service and support

Skills

  • Bachelors' degree and 0-4 years of experience, Associate degree and 6-8 years or High School diploma and 8 or more years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Able to obtain within 6 months DoD 8140/8570 compliant IA certification for IAT II (Security+ CE or higher)
  • Hands-on experience in Linux Server and workstation environments
  • Demonstrated understanding in the design, implementation, and sustainment of Virtualized Machine (VM) architecture
  • Demonstrated understanding of system configuration and apply security controls under Risk Management Framework
  • Demonstrated understanding of computer network concepts (network hardware, cable management, IP address management)
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems
  • Excellent customer service skills and clear communications both written and oral
  • Comfortable working in an environment without immediate supervision
  • Ability and willingness to work onsite in Bowie Maryland
  • Active and current DoD Secret clearance. (U.S. citizenship is required)
  • Understanding of Linux software
  • Understanding of Risk Management Framework
