The Los Angeles Times is the largest metropolitan daily newspaper in the country, with a daily readership of 1.2 million and 2.1 million on Sunday, more than 32 million unique latimes.com visitors monthly and a combined print and online local weekly audience of 4.4 million.
Interested in working with some of the best journalists around? We offer 10 weeks of intensive, hands-on experience in a region where big stories are the norm. We place interns throughout the Los Angeles Times in departments that help capture new audiences, explain news events in written words and present information visually.
Interns have the opportunity to work in Metro/Local, Entertainment & Arts, Sports, Politics, Business, Lifestyle & West Coast Experiences (Home, Plants, Things to Do, Travel Guides, Relationships, Outdoors, Wellness), De Los, Fast Break (breaking news desk), Environment, Health & Science, Multiplatform Editing (copy editing), Photography, Video, Data & Graphics, Design, Audience Engagement, Image (The Times’ fashion magazine), Times Community News and in Sacramento and Washington, D.C. (One of our multiplatform editing interns comes through the Dow Jones News Fund’s national selection process, and that deadline is Nov. 11. We partner with AAAS for our Environment intern; applications open in October.)
These are paid internships and summer 2027 interns are expected to start May 24, June 7 or June 21. We also offer spring internships for Southern California students. We do not have a fall internship program.
Applications for the 2027 Spring and Summer Internships is now open. The deadline to apply is Nov. 15.
The Los Angeles Times is seeking a summer intern to join its Data and Graphics Department. The intern will partner with reporters and editors across the newsroom to inform and engage our readers.
This paid job will provide experience working with professional reporters and computer programmers as they report the news. The intern will join a newsroom team that works to collect, organize, analyze and present structured data.
We don’t expect our interns to walk in the door with knowledge of every programming language. But strong applicants will demonstrate having used computers to be creative and get things done on deadline. A basic understanding of the work is required as interns are expected to hit the ground running when they arrive. A previous internship is recommended. With training from our staff, we will help develop, polish and elevate your work and add to your journalistic toolbox.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be actively working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree and must be eligible to work in the U.S. Graduates may qualify if you've finished school within six months of the start of the internship. Internships are for students who have not worked professionally as staff journalists.
TO APPLY: Submit a resume with three references; one-page personal essay; a portfolio with links to the things you’ve made that you’re most proud of and a brief cover letter that explains how you helped make them.
The deadline to apply is Nov. 15 at 11:59 p.m. PST.
All applicants will receive an email notification of the committee’s decision by May 1. The internship expects to start May 24, June 7 or June 21.
