Summary
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Long Island Rail Road is a commuter railroad serving the New York metropolitan area. The Project Coordinator supports Project Managers and Directors by coordinating capital project design and construction activities, project administration, contractor and procurement processes, safety, and quality improvements.
Responsibilities
- Assist with departmental goals, initiatives and strategies
- Exercise good people skills and promote cooperation and partnering with other departments
- Monitor issues that affect project performance
- Monitor project scope, schedule and budget
- Interface with User Groups, Operating Departments and Public Affairs
- Perform field visits
- Assist in managing project closeouts and CAMP (Commissioning, Acceptance and Maintenance Plan) processes
- Conduct monthly project meetings
- Prepare reports, presentations, research papers and executive studies
- Prepare meeting minutes
- Coordinate in-house and third-party correspondence
- Review and approve transmittals
- Project filing and documentation control
- Assist in the preparation of schedules, estimates and project controls
- Assist in developing procurement packages
- Facilitate the distribution and review of submittals and deliverables
- Review, validate and disposition transmittals and invoices from both Force Account and third party
- Assist in contract management
- Perform other assignments as requested by the SP Director
- Participate in special assignments representing SP, as required
- Ensure a safe working environment and adherence to guidelines of company safety policies and procedures. Lead by example
- Review project documentation for completeness and accuracy
- Ensure QA Plan verifications are performed and documented
Skills
- Must possess knowledge of the construction industry (buildings, bridges, railroad facilities, civil, electrical, mechanical trades, signal, communications and power)
- Must possess working knowledge of project planning, scheduling and estimating for construction trades (all disciplines)
- Must be able to read and interpret construction plans
- Must be able to organize reports, have the ability to analyze data and recommend solutions to coordination problems
- Must possess proficient computer application skills (Windows environment- Microsoft Office)
- Must possess strong business administration skills (i.e. report writing and spreadsheets)
- Must possess strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or other related fields of study. Demonstrated directly related, recent equivalent experience and education may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement, subject to approval
- Must possess prior construction/engineering/manufacturing/project management experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- Familiarization with Contract Documents, Specifications and Plans. (CSI format – Construction Specifications Institute)
- Knowledge of railroad operational needs, FRA (Federal Railroad Administration) policies and safety issues governing the Long Island Rail Road
