Essential Job Duties

The Department of Political Science, in the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA)at North Carolina State University (NC State), invites applications for a tenure-track position atthe assistant professor level, beginning August 2027.We seek highly qualified candidates with a research focus and teaching interests in thepolitics of Latin American states and the region. Teaching responsibilities will be at the graduateand undergraduate level in the department’s Master of International Studies (MIS) program aswell as Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Political Science.The applicant must be able to develop coursework in Latin American politics at the graduate level for our MIS program and be able to teach undergraduate course(s) on the politics and political issues relevant to Latin America as a region and/or specific countries in that region of the world.Scholars with interests in comparative political institutions, comparative political economy, security, energy, climate change, sustainability, social policy, environmental policy and/or democratization are particularly encouraged to apply.

Other Responsibilities

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Department Head.

Minimum Education and Experience

Applicants must have a PhD in Political Science, International Affairs, or related field.

Other Required Qualifications

Demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence, strong research and publication skills, and futureresearch productivity.

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching experience at the university level and demonstrated evidence of teaching excellence.Applicants who can thrive in, and help foster a research and learning environment areespecially encouraged to apply.Examples of mentorship are welcome as part of the application packet.
