Summary
North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking an intern for their Human Resources Department. This internship offers hands-on experience in public sector Human Resources, including recruitment, onboarding, and employee engagement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact at the Human Resources front desk, providing professional and courteous customer service to employees, applicants, and visitors
- Manage multi-line phone system, route calls appropriately, and respond to general HR inquiries
- Support the development, coordination, and improvement of new employee onboarding programs
- Assist with Learning & Development activities including training coordination, room setup, tracking attendance, and participant communication
- Create and assist with internal communication materials and training content, including digital and video-based resources
- Assist with coordination and participation in job fairs, recruitment events, and outreach activities
- Attend HR-related meetings including staff meetings, trainings, and project sessions
- Provide administrative support in updating and formatting job specifications and recruitment documents
- Assist with records management processes including organizing, auditing, and preparing files for storage or destruction
- Support data collection and reporting for HR surveys, audits, and probationary tracking
- Anticipate project needs, prioritize assignments, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Skills
- Current enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with an interest and aptitude to work in Human Resources, Public Administration or a related field
- One (1) year experience with applications in the Microsoft Office environment
- Strong verbal communication skills and professional phone etiquette
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
- Experience in customer service or reception support
- Experience assisting with training coordination or event planning
- Familiarity with digital media or video creation tools
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies
Qualifications
