About the company

We are a solutions provider that leads projects throughout all their lifecycles, from conceptual design to detailed engineering and construction management.

Job description

Summary

Redtree Engineering specializes in engineering, project management, and construction support services for mission-critical facilities, power systems, industrial projects, and complex infrastructure. The Senior Power Systems Engineer will lead and support interconnection studies, power system modeling, substation and microgrid design, controls integration, and advanced analysis for renewable energy, BESS, and hyperscale data center projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support large load and generation interconnection studies, including for ERCOT and other transmission systems
  • Apply and interpret NERC, FERC, ISO/RTO, and TSP requirements for both generation and large load interconnections
  • Develop and validate steady-state models in ETAP and PSSE, and dynamic models in PSSE and PSCAD for large electronic loads (including data centers) and PV, wind, and BESS resources
  • Support development and integration of Solar/Wind/BESS Power Plant Controllers (PPCs) and Master Plant Controllers (MPCs)
  • Participate in EPC HV/MV substation design studies for large data center projects and utility-scale PV, wind, and BESS projects
  • Support or lead microgrid design and control studies at MV and HV levels, drawing on critical power and MV-UPS system experience
  • Support RTDS / RSCAD Control Hardware-in-the-Loop (CHIL) testing
  • Interface with Transmission Service Providers (TSPs), ISO/RTOs, developers, OEMs, and project stakeholders
  • Perform steady-state and short-circuit analyses, including load flow studies, short-circuit analysis, protection coordination, arc-flash studies, reactive power and energy loss analysis, and harmonic studies
  • Conduct electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies in PSCAD, including transient overvoltage (TOV), transient recovery voltage (TRV), insulation coordination, and SSR/SSO screening and mitigation analysis
  • Bring BESS, power conversion system (PCS), and controls/EMS integration expertise to support battery storage and hybrid energy projects

Skills

  • Have 8+ years of relevant experience in power systems planning, interconnection studies, or critical power/BESS engineering
  • Have strong experience with PSSE dynamic modeling and analysis, PSCAD EMT modeling, and ETAP steady-state and protection studies
  • Have demonstrated experience with large load interconnection studies, with data center experience strongly preferred
  • Have experience with generation interconnection (PV, wind, BESS) and ERCOT or other ISO/RTO transmission planning and compliance requirements
  • Have experience developing dynamic PSSE and PSCAD models for large inverter-based resources and electronic loads
  • Familiar with NERC, FERC, ISO/RTO, and TSP requirements for both generation and large load interconnections
  • Have experience embedding and coordinating PPC and MPC control strategies, and with RTDS / RSCAD CHIL testing
  • Bring hands-on experience with BESS, power conversion systems, or MV-UPS/critical power systems for data center applications
  • Must be able to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Focus on Power Systems
  • Data center experience strongly preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience with real-time simulation (HIL/SIL/PIL) and DSP/FPGA-based control system design
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and Python for power systems modeling and validation
  • Prior experience leading or building high-performing engineering teams
  • Experience across multiple ISO/RTO markets in addition to ERCOT
  • Background in grid-forming technologies and hybrid energy solutions
