Summary
Reinsurance Group of America (RGA) is a purpose-driven global reinsurance company focused primarily on life- and health-related solutions. The Operations Finance Analyst supports the IT organization through detailed budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, timekeeping and capitalization compliance, month-end close activities, and internal IT cost allocation.
Responsibilities
- Bottoms-Up Financial Modeling: Partner directly with IT managers and engineers to build hyper-granular, line-item budgets and monthly forecasts based on actual technical roadmaps and vendor timelines
- Variance & Root-Cause Analysis: Monitor real-time spending fluctuations, identify micro-level variances against the forecast, and collaborate with technical owners to understand the structural "why" behind spend deviations
- Timekeeping & Capitalization Compliance: Own the end-to-end audit process for IT labor timekeeping. Ensure engineering hours are accurately tracked, coded, and compliant with accounting standards (e.g., CapEx vs. OpEx allocation for software development)
- Month-End Close Acceleration: Reconcile open purchase orders, accrue technical vendor services, and validate operational data points to provide corporate accounting with clean, verified financials for a smooth close cycle
- Operational Showback/Chargeback: Maintain and optimize internal billing models to distribute IT infrastructure and service costs accurately to the business units consuming them
Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in Finance, Accounting, Management Information Systems (MIS), OR 2–5 years of experience in a role requiring data reconciliation, operational budgeting, or cost accounting (IT environment preferred)
- Advanced Excel Capability: Expertise in handling complex datasets, lookup functions, pivot tables, and data modeling to map unstructured operational logs to financial sheets
- The "Translator" Mindset: Ability to sit with an infrastructure engineer, understand a technical issue, and naturally translate how that delay impacts the accounting ledger
- Experience with time-tracking software (e.g., Jira, ServiceNow, Clarity), ERP tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle), or dedicated IT Financial Management (ITFM/TBM) software
