Summary
Sandhills Global is seeking a Data Scientist Intern to assist their full-time Data Scientist team in analyzing, developing, and testing code for their products and services. The role involves learning and utilizing data to solve problems, visualizing raw data, and communicating trends and observations, with the potential for transition into a full-time Data Scientist role.
Responsibilities
- Assisting the full-time Data Scientist team in the analysis, development, and testing of code supporting existing and future products and services
- Learning, analyzing, and utilizing data to solve problems and answer questions that lead to better customer service
- Visualizing or contextualizing raw data, training, evaluating, and deploying various types of modeling techniques, and communicating resulting trends and observations
- Helping facilitate the curation of data upstream to ensure it is made available in the most advantageous way possible
- Assuming other duties as assigned
Skills
- Completion of or progress towards a degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or any other applied or quantitative discipline
- Experience in Python or R, and various libraries/packages
- Some understanding of machine learning concepts and techniques, including tree-based models and neural networks
- Ability to perform critical thinking and statistical analysis
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to commute when scheduled to the local office is required
- Able to work independently and communicate within a team environment
- Results oriented
- Flexible and open to change
- Stable and progressive work history
- Professional appearance and demeanor
- Hours during regular work week, Ability to commute daily to local office is required
- Knowledge around computer vision, Natural Language Processing, or Large Language Models
- Experience with SQL, stored procedures, or APIs
