Summary
Sandia National Laboratories is a science and engineering laboratory focused on national security and technology innovation. The Intern, Technical Graduate Year Round will conduct user research and apply user-centered design methods to improve web, desktop, and mobile applications. The role involves translating research into design recommendations, creating wireframes and prototypes, and collaborating with designers and developers to deliver high-quality software products.
Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct user research to improve usability and efficiency of web, desktop, and mobile applications
- Apply user centered design methodology to develop usable software products
- Translate user research findings into design recommendations
- Create wireframes and prototypes to communicate design ideas
- Collaborate with user interface designers and developers to create high quality software products
- Serve as an advocate for end users
- Co-design and wireframe front-end user experiences
Skills
- Earned bachelor's degree
- Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited graduate program
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship
- The selected applicant can be a remote worker located in any U.S. State or District of Columbia. Regular or periodic travel to your assigned work location may be required
- Pursuing a MS in Human Factors, User Experience Design, Human Systems Engineering, or Information and Knowledge Management
- Experience with a wide variety of usability methods, including observational studies, user interviews, surveys, heuristic evaluations, usability testing etc
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience working in development teams using agile methodologies
- Knowledge of visual design principles, information architecture, and style guides/template creation
- Understand and have practical experience with web-based software application development methodologies, trends, and technologies
