Summary
Sandia National Laboratories is a science and engineering laboratory focused on national security and technology innovation. The year-round graduate-level intern will support systems analysis research and development by investigating complex systems, analyzing strategic conflict phenomena, designing experiments and research-grade games, and contributing to technical publications and presentations.
Responsibilities
- Undertake systematic investigation, analysis, or experimentation to discover or revise knowledge of system phenomena and discover new approaches to optimizing system performance
- Work with multi-disciplinary teams to incorporate necessary subject matter expertise and domain knowledge for gaining an intimate knowledge of systems (human and/or machine) and their behaviors
- Build and evaluate frameworks that characterize multi-domain competition and conflict
- Help design research-grade games
- Design experiments to answer strategic questions, including variance and process modeling
- Design analysis using qualitative, semi-quantitative, or quantitative methods
- Lead and contribute to technical publications and deliver presentations
Skills
- Earned bachelor's degree
- Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited graduate program
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship
- The selected applicant can be a remote worker located in any U.S. State or District of Columbia
- Regular or periodic travel to your assigned work location may be required
- Political Science, International Relations, or STEM discipline
- Strong technical skills, especially demonstrated expertise/skill in conflict analysis
- Experience in at least one of the following methodologies: experimental design, qualitative research, analytic gaming
- Strong background in strategic conflict research
- Applicants must be comfortable working in a collaborative environment as part of a team of engineers and researchers
- Excellent oral and written presentation skills
- The ideal candidate will have an interest in or experience with conducting self-driven research
