Communications Intern

Since 1996, SAJE has been a force for economic justice in the community focusing on tenants’ rights,

healthy housing, and equitable development.

The mission at Strategic Actions for a Just Economy (SAJE) is to build leadership for a movement for

economic justice. We aim to do this by providing tenants the tools for them to be able to advocate for

themselves and their neighbors. In an effort to provide tenants with information about their tenant’s

rights, SAJE holds a biweekly tenant clinic which provides free education and assistance to community

residents, who are facing issues such as inhabitable living conditions, disputes with their landlords,

illegal rent increases, among other housing issues

SAJE is searching for a Communications Intern. This position is ideal for individuals looking to develop

media experience in a professional nonprofit setting. We are looking for self-motivated and resourceful

individuals willing to work in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

● Support social media content development for current campaigns including the Renters’ Right to

Counsel Campaign.

● Design work for external communications products as needed (i.e. flyers, brochures, social media)

● Photography at member events and campaign events

● General office support for other communications.

An ideal candidate would have the following qualifications

● Strong commitment to the mission of SAJE

● Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently

● Strong written and verbal communication skills

● Strong interest in media, economic justice advocacy, and community organizing

● Excellent verbal and written communication skills

● Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work product

● Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment

Preferred qualifications: Photography skills

Schedule/Hours

Minimum 4 months (or academic semester / quarter) 8-10 hours a week min

Students are encouraged to apply for credit. Internship is unpaid.
