Summary
Strategic Mission Critical is an engineering firm focused on mission critical facilities and data center infrastructure. The Mid-Level Mechanical Engineer/Designer will execute mechanical designs for greenfield and brownfield data centers, fit-out packages, campus planning, conceptual designs, feasibility studies, and system calculations. The role also involves coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, mentoring junior staff, reviewing designs, and leading smaller projects.
Responsibilities
- Utilize Autodesk Revit to produce detailed design documents
- Perform airside and hydronic calculations for multiple mechanical systems
- Understand and develop hydronic & air flow diagrams for various system types
- Select and specify HVAC equipment
- Meet project deadlines, including working necessary hours to complete major deliverables
- Understand local and national construction codes and project specifications to grow a broader understanding of the construction process
- Have experience with the use of Microsoft tools such as Word, Power Point, Excel, and Teams
- Have the ability to travel when required to project sites (approximately 10-20% travel)
- Have the ability to clearly communicate with others in both written and spoken forms
- Lead junior engineers, designers, and modelers, and coordinate the tasks of small project teams to execute delivery of specific design elements
- Mentor and train junior engineers, designers and modelers to assist in developing mechanical design knowledge base
- Maintain excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Skills
- 4-year degree in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering with a preferred mechanical focus
- 2-year degrees and MET degrees with work experience will be considered
- Minimum 4 years of experience in facility HVAC design, particularly using Autodesk Revit for drawing development
- Experience working across the entire construction process, from schematic design through construction administration, including review of submittals and shop drawings, and field work such as existing condition surveys, site observations, and punch lists
- Experience using construction management tools such as Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud
- Experience in mechanical design for larger industrial and commercial buildings is preferred, with experience in mission critical design a plus
- Experience leading small mechanical design teams and having some client interface experience is preferred
- Basic understanding of controls for mechanical systems is a plus
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) preferred
